Showrunner of FX’s Alien series announces official show title and production update

We now know the name of FX’s upcoming Alien series and it alludes more to the prequel… grounded Attitude.

FX boss John Landgraf and the series’ showrunner Noah Hawley revealed in an interview with Variety today that the series will be titled Alien: Earth. Landgraf also said he is “bullish” about Alien: Earth and if it is successful, he would want Hawley to “focus on writing at least two seasons before moving on to a possible sixth season of Fargo.”

Hawley, meanwhile, announced that production of the first season has just been completed and that they are now moving on to the visual effects.

“It’s a very big show. It’s nice to spend some time with it,” he told Variety. “In the first year of anything, you want to feel like you’re not pressed against a wall in terms of time. I’ve seen four of the eight hours of director’s cuts and have gotten involved in the process of figuring out what it wants to be cinematically. That’s one of my favorite parts of producing a show.”

It’s the first solid update we’ve had on the Alien TV series in quite some time. The series was first announced in 2020, and since then we’ve been slowly learning more about it. As the series’ new title suggests, we already knew it would be set on Earth and that it would take place a few years before Prometheus (2093) and about 30 years before Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror film Alien.

“In the first year you want to have the feeling that you are not pressed for time.

Additionally, the cast was expanded to include Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Adarsh Gourav and more.

We still don’t have a release date, but Hawley’s update is encouraging. In the meantime, Alien: Romulus, the latest installment in the series, will premiere on the big screen on August 16, with more information coming at the San Diego Comic-Con panel next week.
