COMMUNITY VOICE APP AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD

You may have heard of the Community Voice app in Crookston and the surrounding area. Megan Pederson developed the app and works with the Crookston Visitors Bureau to provide cities, counties, businesses and colleges/universities with a place where people can get relevant information about current events.

“The Community Voice app is a comprehensive resource for communities. It provides the ability to list all local events, services, resources, facilities, businesses, clubs and organizations in one place,” Pederson said. “Crookston is very fortunate because we have KROX, and there’s a lot of information there, but a lot of communities don’t have that. So it’s very fragmented. There are a lot of Facebook groups and a lot of websites that may not have all the information, and you may not be able to find what you’re looking for. So here you have everything in one place, plus communication tools.”

Businesses that sign up have the option to opt in to receive notifications from businesses. “Users can receive emails from businesses and text alerts from local leadership through the app,” Pederson said. “If there are any changes to events or anything like that, we can send out text messages about that as well.”

The app’s current communities are Crookston, Fertile, Fosston, and the University of Minnesota Crookston. Ulen will be added soon.

Pederson will conduct training on how to use the app for the public and local businesses on the following days/times/locations:

Monday, August 5th in Crookston:
10:00 – 11:00 am at Golden Link
12:00–13:00 at The Nest on Broadway
6:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. in the library

Wednesday, August 7 in Fosston:
9:00-10:00 a.m. at Fosston Town Hall

Thursday, August 8th in Fertile:
6:30-7:30 p.m. at the JD Mason Park Warming House in Fertile
