Carol Marie (Taylor) Zorn | News, Sports, Jobs

Carol Marie (Taylor) Zorn had a life of inspiration and service to the Christian mission and message when she departed this earthly life and continued her eternal life on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. She passed on to her heavenly destination in the loving care of the nurses and staff at Valley View Facility in Belleville.

Carol was born on December 5, 1934, in Webster, Pennsylvania, the third daughter of John Rigby Taylor and his wife, Emily Reher. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Koller and Elaine Rook. During her lifetime, Carol had three sons: William Adam, who died in infancy; Robert Lee Jr., who was retired and lived in Mifflinburg; and Paul Logan, who worked at First Quality and lived at his parents’ home in Treaster Valley; and a daughter, Laurel Beth, who was retired and lived in southern Missouri.

Carol attended Webster Public Schools and Rostraver Township High School and continued her professional education at Douglass Business College in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, earning an Associate Degree in Commercial Secretarial Science.

She began her career at Gimbels Department Store in Pittsburgh and other stores in the Pittsburgh area. She gained the majority of her professional experience in the Warren County School District, where she worked as a teacher’s aide, then rose to secretary and finally to principal, from which she retired in 1993. Carol has volunteered continuously throughout her life at 10 small Presbyterian churches.

Carol had an ambition to be involved and serve the church. She met and married Robert L. Zorn, a divinity student at Waynesburg College. They were married on September 5, 1951, at their home church in Webster and continued in ministry for the next 70 years.

After their marriage, Robert and Carol attended Western Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh. There, Robert was ordained and Carol provided a home for her family. (Guy Gray and Wally Rummel were also students at Western at the time.)

Tragically, a son, William Adam, was born to Carol and Robert in December 1958, but he lived only a few hours. Since then, three more children have been born who have become a life-long focus. In the meantime, Robert became a student minister in a two-church parish, then five-church parish. Then, as is sometimes customary, the minister couple moved to a three-church parish in Mifflin County, known as Westminster Larger Parish, consisting of Milroy, Burnham and Vira Presbyterian churches.

After 10 years in this ministry, due to the growing family, it became necessary to move to another two-church congregation in the Lake Erie Presbytery, which consists of the Tidioute and Irvine churches. Carol found employment in the Warren County School District.

In these later years of her life, Carol, an artist herself, had found a little time to continue the artistic skills she had inherited from her father. Her favorite subjects included flowers, children, English and Amish people, small animals, and rural scenes. In addition to portraits of herself and her husband, she created many works of art that were displayed in many schools, churches, and homes throughout the area. She loved crime writers and was a master at solving crossword puzzles.

Carol’s painting did not stop her from participating in other activities in her community, including serving as a 4-H club leader and as a member of the Reedsville Youth Park Acquisition and Development Committee.

Thanks to Carol, our lives are forever fuller and richer. It is no longer an either/or, but forever Bob and Carol.

A wake will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Milroy Presbyterian Church, 321 S. Main Street, Milroy. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Joy Kaufman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Arrangements are being made by King Funeral Home and Crematory in Reedsville.

Memorial contributions in Carol’s name may be made to her church, Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third Street, Lewistown, PA 17044. Online condolences may be sent to kingbarrfuneralhome.com.
