Ariana Grande changes the positions… of her vocal cords.
After the pop star went viral last week due to a “voice change” in the middle of her appearance on Penn Badgley’s podcast “Podcrushed,” she scathingly explained the phenomenon on TikTok.
“Habit (of speaking like this for two years) and also vocal health 🙂 🍵,” 30-year-old Grande commented under a video demonstrating the obvious change.
“I intentionally change my vocal pitch (high/low) often depending on how much I sing 😭 I’ve always done it that way, BYE.”
The singer, who is preparing for her role as Glinda in the film adaptation of the musical “Wicked,” spoke about recording new music in a lower register before suddenly switching to a higher pitch.
“I used my customer service voice at work,” joked one netizen, with another adding, “I accidentally put on my other personality around the wrong people.”
“LMFAO THAT WAS SO SUDDENLY HELPFUL,” someone else shouted.
Others couldn’t believe it and wrote things like “This can’t be true😭” and “How did that just happen?? 😭😭.”
“I DON’T EVEN THINK SHE KNOWS 😭,” another commenter noted, while someone else remarked, “I don’t even know what her real voice sounds like anymore 😭😭😭.”
Several critics suggested that Grande was “imitate Paris Hilton” because the hotel heiress often speaks in a high, silly voice, which they believe is part of her “character.”
“The real me is actually someone who is brilliant,” Hilton, 43, explained in September 2020. “And I’m not a dumb blonde; I’m just really good at pretending to be one.”
Fans first noticed Grande’s voice change at the 2024 Academy Awards in March, where she and her “Wicked” co-star Cynthia Erivo presented the Oscars for Best Original Song and Best Original Score.
