Sega takes legal action against person accused of harassing employees

Sega has announced that it has won a lawsuit against the serial offender who harassed one of its employees and intends to do the same on behalf of all of its employees.

The developer said the unnamed person “defamed and extremely harassed” the employee on social media, leading to legal action as the situation escalated.

With the court’s permission, the company obtained the harasser’s personal information and sought damages on behalf of the victim. The accused was ordered to delete all of his harassing posts and not to do so again in the future.

Sega continued to describe developer harassment as a “serious problem” and announced that similar legal action would be taken against any further malicious behavior toward its employees.

“We are committed to human rights, where defamation and violence against employees cannot be tolerated,” the letter states. “We ask that you refrain from actions that violate the dignity of our employees.”

The most they can do is demand an end to the harassment and ask other studios to condemn similar efforts. In one case, however, the targeted harassment ended up in court.

Since Sega has announced that it will respond to this behavior with further lawsuits, this could potentially spread throughout the industry, which does not always protect its employees in the best possible way.
