Kai Taylor is ready to follow in her mother Hayley Lewis’ footsteps as an Australian Olympian

2024 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES IN PARIS

Although Kai Taylor is no newcomer to the winners’ podium of the international elite; the 20-year-old Australian swimmer will actually make his Olympic debut in Paris in the next few days.

Taylor, who helped Australia win silver in the men’s 4x100m freestyle and bronze in the men’s 4x200m freestyle in Fukuoka last year, is eager to represent the green and gold national team on the Olympic stage for the first time.

He will follow in his mother’s footsteps, as Taylor is the son of Hayley LewisTwo-time Olympic medalist at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.

During Australia’s second training camp before leaving for Paris, Taylor said training had been “really tough” but the freestyle star was “happy with how it’s going”.

To prepare, Taylor shared that he “talked to a lot of the guys here about their Olympic experience, so they helped me better understand what to expect.”

While he admits it would have been ideal to fight for a place in an individual event, Taylor said: “Relays have been such a big part of Australia’s history, so it’s going to be great to be in a relay with these guys and I can’t wait to represent Australia.”

Taylor, who competes domestically for St Peters Western, finished fourth in the men’s 200m freestyle with a time of 1:46.26 at the Australian Olympic Qualifiers last month. He will Maximillian Giuliani, Tommy Neill And Elijah Winnington as the most likely quartet for the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, hoping to improve on their bronze medal placing three years ago in Tokyo.
