Tate ended the video with a joke: “I don’t know if there are no zaddies, but there’s definitely a husband.” He captioned the video with a summary of what he was talking about: “I want to play a husband (…) Who’s the wife? What’s the genre? Movie? TV?”

Fans immediately declared that the choice was obvious – he could play his breakthrough role as Darius Lovehall in Love, Jones and play the husband of Nia Long’s character Nina Mosley in a sequel.

One user, @theweekendwatch, even responded with a complete premise. “The only correct answer here is Nina’s husband Darius. 27 years later, you have built a life in Chicago and overcome all the dating hurdles we saw in All the best, Jones. Now you face new challenges as a married couple with kids. However, your kids are older; you all have empty nests and are trying to rekindle that spark you had back then because you’ve forgotten your ‘why’ when it comes to each other, which happens to a lot of married people when life gets the better of them. Tell us the black love story, tell us the ups and downs of marriage and parenthood and family and friends etc. You still look damn good and can definitely pull this off. We have so much chaos on TV right now, we need you all back together,” they wrote.

Her idea was similar to The Best Man: Final Chapters and would be a great ending to the love story of Darius and Nina.

Ava DuVernay also commented, “Get it,” and hinted that she may choose to make the film in which Tate plays the husband of a woman who is not necessarily a Love, Jones Consequence.

Funnily enough, in October 2023, the actor admitted that he and Nia Long were thinking about what a modern version of their classic film might look like.

“We feel like we should do something, but something different. TV shows, movies that could be a franchise – we’ve discussed everything. We’ve talked about all kinds of things because we know what Love, Jones meant, we know what those characters meant, and we know what the message and the story meant to us. And we don’t want to disrupt that, we don’t want to mess that up and do something that doesn’t meet the expectations that our audience would expect from us,” Tate explained to AL.com.

Above all, he is ready to “put an end to this (rumor) and start production.”
