NFL.com: Chris Braswell expected to start – JoeBucsFan.com

Last chance.

It seems to be only a matter of time.

Joe is confident, very confident, that the light is finally on for 2021 first-round pick Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. Three years of subpar results suggest that’s unlikely to happen.

There is a current precedent that JTS could flip the switch.

For some reason, Joe notices that some readers also hate Haason Reddick. Joe doesn’t understand at all why anyone would hate a player on the roster who regularly has double-digit sack numbers, but hey, everyone has their own thing. Joe tends to like power, especially at the most important position on a defense. Yeah, weird.

In his first three seasons in the league in Arizona, Reddick was terrible. Worse than JTS. Then, after the Cardinals decided “no fifth-year option for you” and changed his position, Reddick exploded in the final year of his rookie contract with 12 sacks in 2019.

Since then, Reddick has never had fewer than 11 sacks in a season.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com seems to believe the Bucs have already put the JTS chapter behind them and believes second-round pick Chris Braswell will start in Week 1 against the Commandos.

It was difficult to select a second edge player after YaYa Diaby. I went with second-round rookie Chris Braswell. I also wanted to select three pure defensive linemen because coach Todd Bowles likes his heavy fronts.

Joe isn’t sure. Of course, everything can change if Braswell goes crazy in training camp and the three worthless preseason games.

Joe believes the Bucs haven’t given up on JTS yet. And the Bucs still have a lot invested in him. But that doesn’t mean JTS gets a free pass.

If JTS, Joe estimates, doesn’t show real production in the first, say, four to six games, then Joe believes the door is wide open for Braswell.

Think about last year. After YaYa Diaby showed Bucs coach Todd Bowles he was ready after 10 games, Bowles let Diaby start. That could be what Braswell is facing in a matter of weeks (assuming Braswell shows he’s ready).

Joe really, really, really hopes JTS plays as well as he did in the final game of the regular season last year in Carolina. If JTS can get his career going, this could be one hell of a Bucs defense.
