Spotify introduces a new voice and language for its AI DJ

Spotify is launching a Spanish-language version of its AI DJ feature. The new Spanish-language voice is provided by Spotify’s senior music editor Olivia “Livi” Quiroz Roa. Users can switch between Livi and Xavier “X” Jernigan, another Spotify employee who will voice the English-language DJ variant, which will be released in February 2023.

The feature uses an AI-generated voice to create a radio-like commentary that gives users additional context and information about the song they’re listening to. Spotify says this makes listeners less likely to skip to another track. This commentary is coupled with a never-ending playlist of personalized music recommendations that change based on user activity, such as when users switch to different genres or artists.

The Spanish-speaking DJ will be available to Premium users in select Latin American and Spanish markets, alongside regions where the English-speaking DJ feature has already rolled out. This follows price increases made in recent weeks to Spotify Premium subscriptions for US and international users, which Spotify said would allow the company to “continue to invest in and innovate our product features.”
