Dawes announce new album; share first song and hilarious new video

Celebrated Californian rock band Dawes have released their new single “House Parties”. An official music video is out today on YouTube. “House Parties”, co-produced by brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith along with long-time friend Mike Viola, is the first single from Dawes’ upcoming ninth studio album. Oh brotherarrives everywhere Friday, October 11. The album is available for pre-order now and exclusive vinyl is available. A hilarious and entertaining accompanying video for “House Parties” also premieres today. The verses see Dawes hard at work in the studio recording the song, while the choruses feature footage of fans sharing wild party scenes from their personal lives.

A nostalgic song”, says Taylor Goldsmith.A song about how true cultural experiences don’t lie in tourist traps, but in human connections between specific communities. The lyrics are silly, but the sentiment isn’t. We all know the feeling of being truly alive in a dive bar or a stranger’s house, gaining access to a universe we didn’t even know existed… whether on the other side of the planet or just one town over..”

PREORDER OH BROTHER

Oh Brother marks a new chapter for Dawes co-founders Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith following 2022’s epic Misadventures of Doomscroller and the amicable departure of two band members last year. The album moves Dawes decisively forward, honoring 15 years of Taylor and Griffin’s musical relationship and the next era and natural evolution of their beloved band. That spirit informed much of the writing and recording, with each track initially recorded live with just Taylor on guitar and vocals and Griffin on drums, later incorporating additional studio instruments and working with touring guitarist Trevor Menear. Across the nine soulful songs – which seamlessly switch between folk-rock, piano ballads and sprawling jams, while maintaining both an instantly recognizable sound and a freedom from expectations – Oh Brother finds Dawes navigating new chapters in his personal and professional life while remaining unwaveringly creative, ambitious and inspired.

“All you can really do is figure out what the most essential, true, and peculiar parts of yourself are,” says Taylor Goldsmith. “And I like the fact that Griffin and I are clinging and holding on to each other more than ever before. We’re grateful for each other in a new way. But we’ve also been through a lot.”

“It feels like we’re reborn in a way, and I mean that with so much love and gratitude to everyone we’ve ever played with before! That’s what it means to be a life artist, to have iterations. It means to have phases and chapters, and this is a very clear demarcation to the beginning of a new one. So Oh Brother feels like a ninth record, but it also feels like a first record.”

Dawes will celebrate his new era with the Oh Brother Tour, which kicks off November 7 at the Mill & Mine in Knoxville, Tennessee, with additional stops planned for December and April 2025. In the meantime, the band will tour North America with an extensive schedule that includes headlining shows, performances with artists such as The Revivalists and Brad Paisley, festival appearances and more. Highlights include a very special appearance at the upcoming Newport Folk backing Conan O’Brien and Real Musicians (July 28) and a performance with Phil Lesh & Friends at Terrapin Crossroads Presents: Sunday Daydream Vol. 4 (August 18) in San Rafael, California.
