When it comes to celebrity cameos The young, there are so many we could point to, and some of them seem to come out of nowhere. But in Season 4, the celebrity who voiced Ambrosius (you know, the octopus that The Deep is madly in love with) was one of the best choices ever – and Chace Crawford had the funniest reaction when he heard who it was.
Sean O’Connell of CinemaBlend also loved this scene. He had to ask Chace Crawford – the man behind The Deep and his strange love of the octopus – how he reacted when he learned that the famous actress would be lending her voice to the octopus – and Crawford admitted that he died laughing because he knew that Swinton must have a “great sense of humor” to play the role. The specific scene:
I think it was Kripke who said, “Oh my God, you’ll never believe this. We’ve got Tilda Swinton for the voice!” I knew he wanted the most prestigious British actress. He said there were only three or four people on the list. When they said Tilda Swinton was going to do it, I almost died laughing because she must have a great sense of humor if she wanted to play with us. And of course, voicing that (character) in that crazy scene and finally bringing Ambrose to life. It makes it seem so much funnier and more real. She has this really beautiful voice. I just think it’s hilarious.
The young is undoubtedly one of the best shows on Amazon Prime, and season 4 is bringing fans back to the series that loves to gross you out while entertaining you. The series is nothing new when it comes to random cameos – Eric Kripke himself has said he has “little shame” when it comes to bringing in celebrities for the series. Season 4 even had an epic A-Train cameo, but I loved when Tilda Swinton suddenly appeared out of nowhere and lent his voice to Ambrosius.
Tilda Swinton is at the top of the list of the most acclaimed British actresses of all time. She has not only received an Oscar, but also several other major awards for films such as Michael Clayton, We Need to Talk About Kevin, Young Adam, and more. Kripke has clearly remained true to this idea.
Even so, the strange bestiality between The Deep and Ambrosius is still pretty strange, even though Tilda Swinton lends her voice to the character in another great cameo – but that’s The young, so what else can you expect? This show was never standard and probably never will be, as we lead into his fifth and final season as soon as season 4 ends.
For now, I’m going to enjoy the rest of the show while I can – and hopefully not be too disturbed or surprised when I suddenly hear the octopus talking again.
