Hi friends! I’m Kelsey, your guide to all things pop culture at Yahoo Entertainment, and this is the It listour weekly roundup of what’s new and noteworthy. 🎥 Twisters blows us away

  • When: Twisters will be in cinemas on July 19th.

  • What you should know: The film follows a meteorologist and a storm-chasing social media star in a mercilessly action-packed “standalone sequel” to the 1996 blockbuster Twisted.

  • Entertainment reporter Taryn Ryder said people who liked the original film should “run, not walk” to see it Twistersbut it’s still a whirlwind if this is your first rodeo.

  • Glen Powell, who stars alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos, told Yahoo Entertainment that his relationship with the late Twisters Star Bill Paxton called filming “emotionally significant.”

  • Why I’ll be watching: “If you feel it, chase it!” Powell’s character says of an approaching tornado. That’s how I feel about action-packed summer movies – I need to watch this movie on the biggest screen possible with the biggest bag of popcorn possible.

📺 Big Brother includes dystopia

  • When: Big Brother Season 26 will air on July 17 and 18 on CBS.

  • What you should know: A group of 16 participants who live together and compete against each other in games nominate each other for “eviction,” which is decided by public vote.

  • Yodel newsletter writer Lily Herman said watching the contestants’ live feeds between episodes is “addictive.” You don’t have to do that to enjoy the show itself, but you’ll get more out of it.

  • This season’s theme is artificial intelligence. The design of the house is futuristic and unsettling, which is certainly intentional.

  • Why I’ll be watching: I love Survivors And The Traitor, So the logical next step in my training as a reality competition show professional is to broadcast what the contestants are doing around the clock.

📺 Love Island USA says goodbye to the beach

  • When: Love Island USA The season 6 finale will air on July 21 on Peacock.

  • What you should know: Contestants “pair up” to stay on the island and face various challenges. While the “reunion” always creates drama, viewers decide who stays in the villa until one couple walks away with a cash prize.

  • Host Ariana Madix said there would be a “bloodbath” before the finale. This season has been particularly dramatic and its cast is popular on social media.

  • The show runs for about five weeks and airs nightly, which is a lot to consume – but if you stick with it, the drama never seems to end.

  • If that’s not enough for you, check out the original British version of Love Island, It’s the same thing, but with more seasons and more interesting accents.

  • Why I’ll be watching: In a perfect world, I constantly hear about relationship dramas that have nothing to do with me. That is the Love Island Guarantee.

📺 Simone Biles: On the rise goes down in Olympic history

  • When: Part 1 of the documentary series Simone Biles: On the rise Streaming on Netflix begins July 17.

  • What you should know: As Biles prepares for her triumphant return to the Olympics, the athlete reflects on the difficulties she went through when she withdrew from competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

  • She’s the most successful gymnast of all time, but as the trailer explains, she’s “still human.” The first episode offers a unique look behind the scenes and shows how easily physical and mental health can be intertwined.

  • Why I’ll be watching: Entertainment editor Alexis Shaw told me it was the perfect prelude to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The opening ceremony will take place on July 26.

▶️ Natalie Portman is involved in the case in Lady in the Lake

  • When: The first two episodes of Lady in the Lake will be available on Apple TV+ from July 19th, with new episodes available every Friday thereafter.

  • What you should know: Natalie Portman plays a housewife turned reporter who clashes with an activist (Moses Ingram) while investigating an unsolved murder case in 1960s Baltimore.

  • It is based on a novel of the same name, which was inspired by two real deaths.

  • Why I’ll be watching: I feel like I’m always hearing about these exciting Apple TV+ shows that not enough people are talking about. I can’t miss out on that!
