Andy Reid jokes that Travis Kelce is Taylor Swift’s Eras tour “Waterboy”

At football games, Travis Kelce is the star of the game. But at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concerts, according to Andy Reid, he’s happy just being part of the crew.

In an interview with The athlete‘S City of the Shovel In a podcast released Tuesday (July 16), the Kansas City Chiefs coach talked about his star player spending much of the offseason traveling the world with his superstar girlfriend. “I think it’s a great way for him to get away from it all,” Reid told hosts Dianna Russini and Chase Daniel of the Eras shows, which Kelce has been a frequent visitor to this summer.

“I said that about Taylor too,” he continued. “I mean, she comes to the game, she can kind of escape the pressure of being the show. Travis can do that when he goes to her concerts – she’s the star and he can hang out there and be the support or the water carrier.”

Of the increased public attention Kelce has faced since dating Swift last year, Reid said, “I think it’s great for him.”

“He’s OK with it,” the coach continued. “In fact, I think he probably loves it to some extent… It depends on the people involved. She understands all of that. He’s kind of grown into it.”

Reid has had nothing but good things to say about the “Anti-Hero” singer since her romance with the offensive lineman took the NFL by storm in the 2023-24 season, all the way to the Super Bowl, which the Chiefs won while Swift cheered her on in a box at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. In January, he called the musician a “good girl” on Let’s start with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray and added: “I’m happy for Trav.”

Kelce’s Eras Tour appearances — and hopes of another cameo on stage — may be waning as the Chiefs prepare to begin training camp later this month. Kelce and teammate Patrick Mahomes recently spent one of their last free weekends at Swift’s concert in Amsterdam, after which the players went on a double date with the 14-time Grammy winner and Brittany Mahomes, who is married to the quarterback.

Swift has since taken her Eras showcase to Zurich and most recently Milan. She will next appear in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, for three concerts at the Veltins Arena from July 17-19.

“WOW. MILAN,” Swift wrote on Instagram after her stay in Italy. “Those were truly two of my favorite audience members ever. The passion and generosity you showed us… it was a dream come true to perform for you… We will be back!! 🇮🇹 🫶”
