Together with a background singer named Gaia, Alanis and Onyx then begin singing the mother of three’s famous song “Ironic” from 1996.

“It’s a black fly in your chardonnay / It’s a death row pardon that comes two minutes late,” sings Onyx, taking the lead as her proud mother encourages her.

The teen then continues with the chorus: “It’s like rain on your wedding day / It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid / It’s the good advice you just didn’t follow / And who would have thought – it fits.”

After the performance, Alanis posted a photo of the couple’s performance and added an emotional tribute to her daughter.

The singer’s fans flooded in with comments on the video, loving the moment between mother and daughter and saying what an incredible memory this would be for Onyx when she’s older.

“What a beautiful moment in their lives. One they will cherish and look back on with fond memories,” one wrote.

The couple met at a meditation retreat in 2009 and married a year later at their home in Los Angeles.

“I love mothers so much. If I talk about it too much, I start crying,” she said. “I just think mothers are so selfless every day – women are always amazing.”

She went on to say that there are mothers who “suffer silently or not so silently and still carry on,” calling them “functioning sufferers.”

“If there can be even a moment of calm where my humor or affirmation can help – that’s why I did it,” she continues of her decision to pose with her child. “Plus, I love education and teaching.”
