Alanis Morissette sings “Ironic” with her 8-year-old daughter: “I love you so much”

The singer invited her husband and daughters on stage for the beautiful performance.

Alanis Morissette gave an unusual rendition of her classic song “Ironic” when she invited her daughter Onyx on stage to sing an emotional duet.

The moment occurred during the star’s June 23 performance in Nashville, when she told the crowd that her daughter Onyx would be joining her onstage as part of her birthday celebrations.

The shy teenager was then seen taking the stage with her father and little brother before 50-year-old Alanis Morissette led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to the 8-year-old.

Together with a background singer named Gaia, Alanis and Onyx then begin singing the mother of three’s famous song “Ironic” from 1996.

“It’s a black fly in your chardonnay / It’s a death row pardon that comes two minutes late,” sings Onyx, taking the lead as her proud mother encourages her.

The teen then continues with the chorus: “It’s like rain on your wedding day / It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid / It’s the good advice you just didn’t follow / And who would have thought – it fits.”

Onyx continues singing the song as her proud mother looks on before Alanis hugs her daughter and then turns to thank the cheering crowd.

After the performance, Alanis posted a photo of the couple’s performance and added an emotional tribute to her daughter.

“Birthday angel moment 💫✨ singing ironically together,” she wrote.

“I love you so much Onyx, you are my dream daughter #8 #happybirthday #nashville #i❤️younashville”

The singer’s fans flooded in with comments on the video, loving the moment between mother and daughter and saying what an incredible memory this would be for Onyx when she’s older.

“What a beautiful moment in their lives. One they will cherish and look back on with fond memories,” one wrote.

Another said: “This is priceless. Definitely one of the best memories she will have when she grows up.”

“This was incredible. I’m not sure who was happier, mom or daughter? I loved it,” commented a third.

Alanis Morissette has three children with her husband, singer Mario “Souleye” Treadway.

The couple met at a meditation retreat in 2009 and married a year later at their home in Los Angeles.

Alanis and Mario welcomed their first child, Ever, in December 2010, followed by Onyx in June 2016 and their third child, Winter, in 2019.

Speak with Health In 2020, the singer, who appeared on the cover of the magazine while breastfeeding Winter, spoke about motherhood and the “silent suffering” women go through.

When asked why she posed for a photo while breastfeeding her youngest, Alanis simply said: “Because I love women.”

“I love mothers so much. If I talk about it too much, I start crying,” she said. “I just think mothers are so selfless every day – women are always amazing.”

She went on to say that there are mothers who “suffer silently or not so silently and still carry on,” calling them “functioning sufferers.”

“If there can be even a moment of calm where my humor or affirmation can help – that’s why I did it,” she continues of her decision to pose with her child. “Plus, I love education and teaching.”
