Drunk Star Spangled Banner singer apologizes

On Monday (15 July) Ingrid Andress made headlines after she gave what audience members believed was a drunken rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Singing the American national anthem is a big deal at any event, but at the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas? So many people saw it that Andress’s performance went viral.

Andress addressed the incident on X (formerly known as Twitter), writing, “I’m not going to tell you anything, I was drunk last night. I’m going to check myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”

She continued, “That wasn’t me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country that I love so much for that performance. I will tell you all what rehab is like. I hear it’s super fun.” She signed the message, “xo, Ingrid.”

Since sharing her statement on social media, Andress has received an outpouring of support from the country music world. Small city commented on her Instagram post: “You can do this! Sending you love.” Maren Morris said she was thinking of the singer and Martina McBride added: “Sending lots of love and positivity. You can do this.”

Ahead of her performance on Monday, Andress gave her fans a preview of her upcoming single via her mailing list. Colorado 9, which she said had something to do with depression.

“I had to part ways with some people who helped me make a name for myself,” Andress wrote in the note (via diversity). “It plunged me into what my country America calls ‘depression,’ but I’m not a doctor.”

Andress called it the “lowest point” she had ever been at and said she decided to return to where she grew up – Colorado – to find herself again.

“Sometimes you just need time in your hometown to remember who you really are and you start to feel proud of the person you’ve become,” she continued. “I hope everyone has their own Colorado to return to when they feel lost.”

Andress’ latest album, Good personwas released in August 2022. About the LP, she said: “Producing this album was one of the most painful processes I’ve ever been through, but it was also the brightest and best.

“With the first album I wanted to find out who I was as an artist, but the last two years have forced me to really confront my reality and my feelings. That’s how I came to this album, where I realized that I wasn’t happy and I needed to change that.”

At the beginning of the year, singer Elle King came under drunkenly stumbling by a cover of Dolly Parton’s song from 2001 marry me.

The performance was part of Dolly goes to the Oprya show hosted by the Ryman Auditorium in honor of Parton on what would have been her 78th birthday. At one point during the performance, King addressed the audience with the following statement: “Hi, my name is Elle King, I’m fucking drunk.”

King canceled tour dates after the incident and spoke about it on Instagram two months later.
