You have to love seeing smart decisions from the Denver Broncos front office

The Denver Broncos are in the midst of a rebuild and I am encouraged to see the steps the team is taking today as they embark on a true rebuild.

Quinn Meinerz is a damn good NFL guard. He has worked his ass off since being drafted (and before) to get to this point in his career. He has earned this contract extension and is showing signs of being a player who has a very long career ahead of him.

Compare that to the contract extension the Broncos gave Russell Wilson, which in hindsight is like night and day. Wilson hadn’t accomplished anything as a Bronco when he was given an extension. He should have been forced to play another game in Denver before getting a contract extension.

I love a move like this because it raises the bar for the future: if you put in the effort like Meinerz did, you will be rewarded. This team will sign you and you will be a fundamental part of the team going forward.

Hopefully this is also a sign that the Broncos will no longer give big contracts to players who don’t deserve them…
