Country singer Ingrid Andress says she was drunk during the terrible performance of the US national anthem

A country singer in the USA has entered rehab after she defaced the US national anthem during a performance that attracted widespread criticism.

Ingrid Andress has said she was drunk when she sang The Star-Spangled Banner before a baseball game in Texas on Monday night. Her singing was widely criticized, with one particularly shaky high note drawing gasps from the audience.

“I’m not kidding you, I was drunk last night,” she wrote on social media.

“I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That’s not how I was last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country that I love so much for that performance. I’ll tell you all what rehab is like. I hear it’s a lot of fun.”

There was speculation that Andress appeared to be suffering from more than just ear problems during her performance at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, leading many audience members to say it was the worst version of The Star-Spangled Banner they had ever heard.

“I’m so sorry. I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was, I think, one of the worst national anthems I’ve ever heard in my entire life,” said Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr.

Andress has been nominated for a Grammy four times and has made a name for herself as a songwriter for other artists, including Bebe Rexha’s “Girl In The Mirror” and Charli XCX’s “Boys.”

The Nashville native’s debut album was released in 2020 and her breakthrough single “More Hearts Than Mine” reached number 30 on the US charts.
