Ingrid Andress admits to singing the national anthem while drunk at the MLB Home Run Derby

Baseball fans finally have an explanation why Ingrid Andress produced a very botched version of the United States National anthem before the MLB Home Run Derby.

Four-time Grammy nominee Ingrid Andress caused a stir with her interpretation of the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Monday.

Andres has made a name for herself by seamlessly incorporating pop and R&B elements into traditional country music, creating a distinctive sound.

This may make her a brave choice for the task of singing the national anthem, but now she admitted that she was indeed drunk when she took the field and broke her silence with a statement on Tuesday.

“I’m not kidding you, I was drunk last night,” she wrote on social media after her completely inconsistent performance on Monday evening.

Ingrid Andress has to go to rehab

Perhaps more importantly in the bigger picture, this incident led Andress to decide to enter rehab and get the help she needs with her alcohol use.

“I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That’s not how I was last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country that I love so much for that performance. I’ll tell you all what rehab is like. I hear it’s super fun,” she added before signing off with “xo, Ingrid.”

Her musical journey began in Berklee Collegewhere she was part of the a cappella group Pitch Slapped, which competed on NBC’s The Sing-Off for two seasons.

This experience led to the mentorship of a renowned songwriter Kara DioGuardiAfter graduating, she moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting and wrote hits for artists such as Bebe Rexha, FLETCHER and Dove Cameron, including the international hit “Boys” by Charli XCX.

Andres has also found success as a solo artist. Her 2020 debut album, Lady Like, set the record for the most streamed debut album by a female country artist.
