Chris Stuckmann’s horror film has found a home at Neon

Neon remains committed to horror.

The studio, which currently has “Longlegs” in theaters, has acquired worldwide rights to “Shelby Oaks,” which is written and directed by filmmaker and YouTube creator Chris Stuckmann in his directorial debut. The film will premiere Saturday at Fantasia Fest.

Described by Neon as a “found footage documentary crossover,” Shelby Oaks stars Camille Sullivan, Brendan Sexton III and Sarah Durn. The film was produced by Stuckmann, Aaron B. Koontz, Ashleigh Snead and Cameron Burns for Paper Street Pictures. Executive producers are Trevor Macy and Melinda Nishioka for Intrepid Pictures with Mike Flanagan, Adam F. Goldberg, Paul Holbrook, Sean E. DeMott and Tony Killough. Neon will release the film in U.S. theaters and handle international distribution.

Long legs

According to the official synopsis, “Shelby Oaks” is about Mia (Sullivan), who is desperately searching for her sister Riley (Durn), who mysteriously disappeared in the last volume of her investigative series “Paranormal Paranoids”.

Shelby Oaks was released in 2022 via a Kickstarter campaign that raised $1.39 million in less than a month, making it the highest-funded horror film of all time on the platform. Stuckmann is best known for his YouTube videos in which he reviews films and talks about cinema.

The deal was negotiated by Jason Wald, Vice President of Acquisitions & Production at NEON, with Aaron B. Koontz, CEO of Paper Street Pictures, on behalf of the filmmakers.

In addition to Longlegs, Neon has Cuckoo, starring Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens, coming out later this summer, and The Monkey, from Longlegs filmmaker Osgood Perkins, is scheduled for release early next year. This fall they’re also releasing the Palme d’Or-winning Anora, and recently secured the rights to Julia Ducournau’s Titane follow-up Alpha. Earlier this year they also released Immaculate, a terrific horror film starring and producing Sydney Sweeney.
