GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WOOD) – A Michigan-born singer who made waves with her rendition of the national anthem has admitted she was drunk when she stepped up to the microphone Monday night.

Southfield-born country singer Ingrid Andress sang the national anthem before the MLB Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, on Monday night. Her performance was quickly panned as one of the worst in recent memory and sparked furor on social media and talk shows.

During the performance, Andress went out of key or time several times. Now we know why.

“I’m not going to talk – guys, I was drunk last night,” Andress published on social media on Tuesday afternoon. “I’m going to check myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”

Andress was born in Michigan and spent time there while her father, Brad Andress, worked as a strength and conditioning coach for the Detroit Tigers. Brad Andress also worked with the Colorado Rockies, New York Mets and the University of Michigan.

Ingrid Andress began her musical career as a songwriter in Nashville before finally signing her own record deal in 2019. She has released two albums and recently teased a new single that is due out soon.

Andress has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Country Song and Best Country Album in 2021.

She admits that her performance on Monday was embarrassing.

“That wasn’t me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country I love so much for that performance,” Andress wrote.
