Due to new asphalting work, part of the road in Portage will be closed

Shaver Road in Portage, Michigan, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023. The Shaver Road reconstruction project, scheduled to begin in spring 2023, includes replacing the water main from Oakland Drive to Vanderbilt Avenue, upgrading concrete sidewalk ramps, replacing storm sewer lines and hot mix asphalt. PORTAGE, MI – Shaver Road will be closed to northbound drivers beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 17 for paving work.

Traffic in the northbound lane will be detoured east on West Osterhout Avenue, north on Portage Road, and west on East Centre Avenue to Shaver Road.

The southbound lane will remain open from Vanderbilt Avenue to Captiva Island. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at Vanderbilt Avenue and Shaver Road to facilitate traffic flow.

Those with private driveways onto Shaver Road must use the southbound lane.

Shaver Road northbound will reopen by Wednesday, July 24, depending on weather and materials.

Shaver Road northbound will be closed for approximately one week.
