Former US goalkeeper Tim Howard becomes minority shareholder of Houston Dynamo Football Club

HOUSTON (AP) — Former U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard has joined as a minority investor in the group that co-owns Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo FC and the National Women’s Soccer League’s Houston Dash.

The Houston Dynamo Football Club announced the new signing on Tuesday.

“His extensive experience in soccer, both as a player at the highest level and as a sports director and media analyst, will be invaluable to us as we continue to build a competitive and successful organization,” majority owner and chairman Ted Segal said in a statement. “In addition, Tim’s commitment to using his unique platform to positively impact communities in need is consistent with our organization’s values.”

Howard played 121 games for the US national team from 2002 to 2017, including eight at the World Cup. He was part of the first ownership group of Memphis 901 FC in the United Soccer League in 2018.

“As someone who has dedicated his life to the sport of soccer, I am thrilled to join the Houston Dash and Dynamo ownership group,” said Howard. “This opportunity allows me to further contribute to the growth of the game in the United States and connect with the passionate soccer fans who call Houston home.”
