Russian missiles hit energy infrastructure in Lviv Oblast, explosions heard in several cities

Russian forces launched missile and drone attacks on several Ukrainian regions on the night of June 22. In Lviv Oblast, a Russian missile hit an energy infrastructure facility and caused a fire, Governor Maksym Kozytskyi reported.

No information could be given about the extent of the damage. Rescue workers are currently on site and are extinguishing the fire.

At around 4:45 a.m. local time, explosions were heard in the northwestern city of Lutsk in Volyn Oblast and over Vinnytsia Oblast, Suspilne reported.

According to Suspilne, residents also reported hearing the sound of explosions in the city of Khmelnytskyi at around 5:30 a.m. local time.

The Ukrainian Air Force warned of a missile threat to the western and central regions of Ukraine.

At 4:50 a.m. local time, Poland announced that it had alerted military jets to protect Polish airspace in light of the Russian attack in western Ukraine.

As of 5:45 a.m., no explosions or further damage were reported.

In recent months, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and again attacked the country’s energy grid.

In response to the attacks on energy infrastructure, Ukraine began rolling power outages on May 15, but these have increased dramatically in recent days.
