Chris Pine almost returned to voice Captain Kirk in STAR TREK: PRODIGY season 2 — GeekTyrant

Two weeks ago, season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy was released on Netflix, and the series, which “follows a ragtag group of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a larger galaxy in search of a better future,” almost welcomed a familiar face or voice to the franchise.

The show’s co-executive producer, Aaron J. Waltke, recently sat down with Screen Rant to talk about the series, and he explained that they wanted Chris Pine to reprise the role of Captain Kirk this season:

“I think at one point we talked about what other universes we could explore. And I think at one point we talked about even bringing in the Kelvin universe, but we just didn’t have time in the episode ‘Cracked Mirror,’ where they go to all the different universes. And we thought, ‘Oh, what if we brought in this Captain Kirk guy and had him help them out for a couple of episodes?’

It was a cool idea, but there were just a little too many sauces in the stew. I think it would have been fun. But I think it would have distracted from the story we wanted to tell.

For a few episodes it would have been the Captain Kirk show. Maybe that’s the third season, we’ll find out.”

It would have been cool to see his crossover in this series aimed at a younger audience, but it sounds like the idea was scrapped for good reasons.

In Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2: “These six young outsiders who make up the Prodigy crew are given a new mission aboard the USS Voyager-A to rescue Captain Chakotay (voiced by Robert Beltran) and bring peace to Gwyns (spoken by Ella Purnell) homeworld. But when their plan goes awry, a time paradox arises that threatens both their future and their past.”

The voice actors include Kate Mulgrew as hologram Janeway, Brett Gray as Dal, Ella Purnell as Gwyn, Angus Imrie than zero, Rylee Alazraqui as Rok-Tahk, Dee Bradley Baker as Murf, and Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog.

Seasons one and two of Star Trek: Prodigy are now available on Netflix.
