The Hong Kong Book Fair brings together writers, academics, celebrities and experts. Find out what to do, see and eat here

The 34th Hong Kong Book Fair will take place from 17 to 23 July at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai under the motto “Film and Television Literature”.

Aside from books, this year’s fair will take place concurrently with the Sports and Leisure Expo and the World of Snacks Expo, with a total of 760 vendors.

Seminars

Various seminars will be held with renowned authors, scientists, celebrities and experts. Some require prior registration.

  • July 17: Film producer and director Ng See-yuen and author Sun Sai-shing from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in meeting room S423-424

  • July 17: Singer Remus Choy Yat Kit on personal development and spiritual growth from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. in meeting room S428

  • July 17: contemporary playwright and screenwriter Raymond To Kwok-Wai from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in meeting room S224-225

  • 18 July: former Minister of the Environment Wong Kam-sing and former Director of the Hong Kong Observatory Lam Chiu-ying from 11:00 to 12:30 in Meeting Room S224-225

  • July 19: Economist and businessman Shan Weijian from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in meeting room S421

  • July 20: Chinese novelist Jin Yucheng, known for blossomsand literary historian Xu Zidong from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in Hall 5G

  • 20 July: Chinese writer Su Tong from 3 to 4.30 p.m. in Hall 5G

  • 21 July: Chinese writer Ban Yu from 11 am to 12.30 pm in Theater 1

  • July 21: Songwriter and screenwriter Norris Wong Yee-lam and literary critic Stephen Yiu-Wai Chu from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in meeting room S221

Exhibits

  • The art gallery displays manuscripts and awards from famous authors such as Joyce Chan Wan-Man and Raymond To Kwok-Wai, as well as props from the films that inspired them. The Classic Adaptations section highlights the interplay between text and visual media by showcasing film and television adaptations of classic literary works, while Directors Spotlight presents the creative visions of famous directors who have brought literary works to the screen.

  • The “World of Art and Culture” presents art, films, television and literature from Hong Kong and around the world in various media. On display are an interactive map and an artificial intelligence installation as well as a miniature model of the walled city of Kowloon.

  • In the Sports Hub area, visitors can test their physical skills on a mobile zipline course organized by the Hong Kong Playground Association or try out the Ninja Obstacle Racing Experience.

  • The Hong Kong Sports Institute displays medals won on loan from local athletes.

  • The Japan National Tourism Organization and 18 Japanese prefectures and cities have joined forces to form a Japan Pavilion to showcase the country’s attractions and culture.

Eat

  • “World of Snacks” offers more than 1,200 types of snacks and is divided into six areas, including Snack Bar, Party Time, Yummy & Healthy, Oldie Snacks, Travel Delight and Chocolate and Sweet Factory.

  • Nestlé will launch new ice cream flavours and offer special promotions, including a ‘buy two, get two free’ offer for sundaes or scoops, redeemable with any purchase receipt from the Book Fair or Sports and Leisure Expo.
