Destiny 2: Aberrant Action – God Roll Guide

Destiny 2: Aberrant Action – God Roll Guide

The rocket-assisted sidearm archetype, a pistol that literally fires rockets, is one of the best weapon types in Destiny 2, and with the launch of Act 2 of Episode: Echoes, we now have three of these powerful explosive-firing pistols in the game. While you’ll still want to get a handcrafted God Roll of The Call from The Final Shape’s new objective, the Pale Heart of the Traveler, the newly released Aberrant Action is another weapon you’ll want to pick up. It too is craftable, and since it’s a solar weapon, it has some extremely useful perks that will help you in high-level PVE content.

How to induce deviant actions

Aberrant Action is part of the episodic loot pool, so you’ll need to complete episodic activities to get it. This means you’ll need to try Breach Executable, Enigma Protocol, or the newly released Nessus Battlegrounds missions in the hopes of getting Aberrant Action as a random reward. It seems more likely that you’ll get it from the Battlegrounds playlist, probably because that and Aberrant Action are released together.

For completing the story quests in the first week of Act 2, you are guaranteed at least one Aberrant Action, as well as Corrasion, the episode’s new pulse rifle. You can also get Aberrant Action from Failsafe in the HELM when you turn in Echoes engrams, and eventually you’ll be able to target those engrams to get Aberrant Action – though you won’t be able to unlock this ability in the first week.

Deviant Action God Roles

Divergent Action PvE God Roll

  • barrel: Quick Start
    • +10 speed, +15 handling
  • magazine: High-velocity projectiles
    • +10 reload speed, +10 speed
  • First advantage: Heal clip
    • Reloading shortly after a finishing strike heals you and nearby allies.
  • Second advantage: light bulb
    • Defeating a target spreads burns to nearby enemies. Stronger fighters and guardians spread burns in a larger radius.
  • Masterpiece: Speed / Reload speed

Aberrant Action is a slightly weaker option compared to The Call and Indebted Kindness, the rocket-based sidearm you can get in the Spire of the Watcher dungeon. It may not knock out enemies quite as well as those other weapons, but it makes up for that weakness with the synergy of the Solar build.

This is a utility player that fits perfectly into your Solar builds thanks to the combination of Heal Clip and Incandescent, which work very well with Solar abilities, especially those that rely on Scorch. Incandescent sets nearby enemies on fire when you get a kill, and Heal Clip heals you and nearby allies when you reload after a kill. When coupled with other build elements that burn enemies and heal you, Aberrant Action fits great.

There are actually a few other good combinations for Aberrant Action if you want a version that’s less dependent on a Solar use case. Beacon Rounds, a new perk from The Final Shape, feels great and gives your sidearm missiles tracking once you get a kill with it. It’s a great perk for dealing with enemies on the other side of an arena and can make up for the slower speed of missiles compared to bullets from traditional weapons.

Demolitionist is also pretty good, as you can use your rocket-assisted sidearm to blow up and take out a lot of smaller enemies, increasing your overall grenade availability. Additionally, Reverberation increases the size of your rocket explosions, which can help increase the overall usefulness of Aberrant Action for taking out weak enemies.

Divergent Action PvP God Roll

  • barrel: Quick Start
    • +10 speed, +15 handling
  • magazine: High-velocity projectiles
    • +10 reload speed, +10 speed
  • First advantage: Healing Clip / Beacon Rounds
    • Healing Clip: Reloading shortly after a finishing strike heals you and nearby allies.
    • Beacon Rounds: Final strikes with this weapon give your projectiles tracking. Additional damage increases the duration.
  • Second advantage: Harmony / Golden Tricorn
    • Harmony: Final strikes with other weapons improve the damage and performance of this weapon for a short time.
    • Golden Tricorn: Finishing blows with this weapon deal bonus damage. While this buff is active, grenade or melee kills of the same damage type significantly increase its damage and duration.
  • Masterpiece: Speed

Aberrant Action is not a good PvP weapon, so don’t focus on that aspect unless you love it. There are better rocket-assisted sidearms for the job, and in general they aren’t great at taking down Guardians anyway. If you choose to use Aberrant Action in the Crucible, put your emphasis on increasing the weapon’s damage and speed stats, as it will make those rockets harder to dodge.

As for perks, your combo will depend on how you play in the Crucible. Heal Clip can help you get through dangerous situations with a health boost after landing a kill with the weapon, making it a handy cleanup weapon in dual scenarios. Beacon Rounds, on the other hand, can combo well with Harmony, where you’ll attack more enemies after a kill with another weapon, giving you a damage boost and potentially tracking for your missiles. More aggressive players will likely want the Beacon Rounds and Harmony combo, but really, there’s not much in the way of perk synergy here that will help you get through fights with multiple enemies.
