Jack Black takes decisive action after controversial comments from a bandmate

Tenacious D member Kyle Glass made a spontaneous joke about Donald Trump’s assassination attempt

Jack Black tries to limit the damage.

Following the recent controversy surrounding a member of his band Tenacious D, the 54-year-old actor and musician announced that the band’s tour had been de facto cancelled.

The controversy ignited during a July 14 show after band member Kyle Gass made an off-hand joke about the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump, prompting Black to respond immediately.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the School of Rock Star expressed his shock and disappointment.

“Kyle’s comments surprised me,” he wrote. “I would not support hate speech or political violence in any form.”

Black’s response was decisive: “After careful consideration, I have decided to cancel the Tenacious D tour and put all of our future plans on hold. I am grateful to our fans for their support and understanding.”

Gass also issued a sincere apology on social media. “My off-the-cuff comment in Sydney was inappropriate and dangerous,” he admitted, making it clear that he does not support violence in any form and deeply regrets his lack of judgement.

The controversial joke arose when Gass joked that his wish for his 64th birthday was that the next assassination attempt on Trump would be successful.

Tenacious D, consisting of Gass and Black, was formed in 1994 and has been entertaining fans with their unique blend of humor and rock for nearly 30 years.
