Country singer scheduled to perform ‘worst national anthem ever’ says she was drunk and is going to rehab

Singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress, whose performance at MLB’s Home Run Derby was called the “worst national anthem ever,” said she was drunk and was checking into rehab.

In a message posted on her social media accounts, the 32-year-old wrote: “I’m not kidding you, I was drunk last night.

“I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That’s not how I was last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country that I love so much for that performance. I’ll tell you all what rehab is like. I hear it’s a lot of fun.”

She signed the message: “xo, Ingrid.”

Andress’ performance before the baseball game at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, prompted many viewers to say it was the worst version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” they had ever heard at a major sporting event.

Her a cappella rendition was sonically fluid and was quickly pilloried on social media on Monday.

“My ears are bleeding. One of the worst national anthem performances ever,” wrote one X user brutally.

Another account called their version “interesting to say the least…”

“This is what a Grammy nominee created with Auto-Tune sounds like without Auto-Tune or musical accompaniment (a cappella)… Her career could be ruined…” noted another.

“Joe Biden could have sung that better,” one joked.

Some even pleaded: “Please never try to sing our national anthem again.”

“That national anthem by Ingrid Andress might be the worst thing to happen in America in the last 48 hours,” wrote one user. Another responded, referring to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Saturday: “Not a good week for ears.”

Others compared her performance to Fergie’s 2018 NBA game performance, which has been denounced as one of the worst versions for years. Now critics say they preferred Fergie’s interpretation.

“With all due respect, and I mean this seriously, this is the worst anthem I have ever heard. Fergie would have been an improvement,” said one.

Others posted memes of people celebrating and suggested Fergie would be thrilled after Monday’s performance. One user wrote: “Fergie sees Ingrid Andress dethrone her for her worst performance of the national anthem.”

Ahead of her performance on Monday – or the flood of criticism – the Grammy-nominated singer announced a new single that will be released on July 24.
