Rosa Doherty shared a statement People on Monday (July 15), she mourned the loss of her daughter after a long battle with cancer, calling her “my heart” and thanking everyone who had shown support to the deceased Charmed Actress throughout her life.
“She is my beautiful girl and my heart,” Rosa said. “Our family would like to thank everyone who has shown our Shannen love and support throughout her life. We are truly grateful.”
Doherty died on Saturday (July 13) after a long battle with cancer. Her publicist Leslie Sloane and confirmed the sad news on Sunday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of battling the disease,” Sloane said. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones and her dog Bowie. The family requests privacy so they can grieve in peace.”
Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 before the disease went into remission in 2017. However, in 2020, she revealed that the cancer had returned as stage four metastatic cancer, which had later spread to her brain and bones.
The Heather Star friend and oncologist Dr. Lawrence D. Piro shared his final conversation with Doherty before her death, saying she continued to be an inspiration and was an “incredible warrior” who “fought so hard.”
