Taylor Swift reveals which song is the next single from “Tortured Poets”

Try to come for her job. In the middle of the European leg of her global Eras Tour, Taylor Swift has announced which song from The “Tortured Poets” section will be the next single from the album: the deceptively cheerful “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart”.

The news came via message on Taylor Nation’s official account on Tuesday (July 16). “We’re so bummed we pretend every day is #ICanDoItWithABrokenHearts birthday! But today is special because Taylor is declaring it the next single from #TSTTPD!” the pop star’s team wrote, referencing some of the song’s lyrics and sharing the new solo artwork. “Lights, camera, bitch, check out the sweet new cover on all streaming platforms.”

The cover, fittingly, features a photo of Swift beaming at one of her Eras shows, wearing a sparkly top and blazer and surrounded by showgirl feathers. Written and released after the 14-time Grammy winner began her journey in 2022, “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” shows her pushing herself to perform in front of tens of thousands of people every night, despite suffering from a painful breakup.

“I’m a real tough boy, I can handle my shit/ They said, ‘Baby, you gotta fake it ’til you make it,’ and that’s what I did,” she sings. “I broke down and fell on the floor/ Every part of me was breaking while the crowd chanted ‘More!'”

The sweet hymn to a sad girl marks the second song on TTPD to be certified as a single, following the Billboard Hot 100-topping hit “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. Shortly after the album’s release on April 19, “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” entered the charts at No. 3.

Swift’s first order of business in the track’s single cycle was to release it as a standalone release and release an instrumental version on streaming services so fans could participate in a cathartic karaoke. Both come as Tortured poets enters its 12th week at number 1 on the Billboard 200.
