From a classic Nathan’s on the grill to a gourmet creation at a hipster bar, I’m all about every kind. I’m also a boiled hot dog girl through and through, but that’s a topic for another day.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, I forwent my favorite supermarket hot dogs and headed to Sam’s Club to try the new Cheddar Pork Hot Dog combo at Sam’s Club Cafe. I have to say, the results of this taste test might surprise you as much as it did me. How does the Cheddar Cheese Pork Hot Dog from Sam’s Club taste?

The new Sam’s Club Cheddar Cheese Pork Hot Dog is made with premium pork sausage with real cheddar cheese and I was honestly totally impressed! This isn’t your typical hot dog as it was twice the size of a regular frankfurter. It has that signature crispy bite in the outer layer that is juicy on the inside and filled with flecks of melted cheddar cheese. Delicious.

The hotdog itself was quite tasty as the flavor profile wasn’t too salty and had a nice pork flavor. There were no weird or artificial flavors to be found either. The choice of cheese was also an excellent addition as it didn’t overpower the flavor profile or be a salt assault. It was a tried and true balance that was very welcome. I also have to praise the bun. Although it was a typical white bread bun, it was super fluffy and held the jumbo hotdog well.

Overall, I have to say I’m shocked at my love for this new hot dog from Sam’s Club. It’s a solid hot dog and super tasty. I highly recommend you give it a try!

Nutritional value and cost

Although you can buy the hot dog on its own, I opted for the combo with a hot dog and a large drink for only $1.38 – cheaper than Costco. You can’t beat that price. However, I’m a Coca-Cola fan, so finding a selection of Pepsi products at the soda fountain was out of luck for me. The cafe had a delicious lemon-lime drink called Starry that hit the spot on that hot summer day, so my disappointment was gone.

One point that needs to be addressed is the nutritional information. Although the hot dog was delicious and devoured in seconds, the nutritional information was a bit concerning. One hot dog has 350 calories, 34 grams of fat, and 1110 milligrams of sodium. Yes, you read the sodium numbers correctly, and boy did I feel the effects of that lunch choice all day. While the hot dog did offer 15 grams of protein, I don’t think that really makes up for the salt intake I suffered. These are not healthy hot dogs. Be sure to wash this one down with some water…

Overall, I was pretty impressed with Sam’s Club and their giant cheddar hot dogs. These sausages were delicious in every way and hit the spot as a midday snack. From the chewiness of the hot dog to the gooey cheddar cheese inside, I didn’t have much to complain about. Aside from the sodium content, which felt illegal, this hot dog was a winner.

Whether you’re a Sam’s Club member or not, a hot dog connoisseur or not, I highly recommend heading to your nearest Sam’s Club and giving it a try. These aren’t your average fast food hot dogs. They’re way better. And hey – you can still get some shopping done at the end of the day!
