Home Run Derby national anthem singer Ingrid Andress goes viral – NBC New York

Reactions on social media to Monday’s performance of the national anthem at the Home Run Derby were swift and fierce, with some saying it was the worst rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” they had ever heard at a sporting event.

The anthem was sung by country artist Ingrid Andress, who has been nominated for a Grammy four times and was most recently nominated for Best Performance by a Country Duo/Group in 2023.

“My ears are bleeding. One of the worst renditions of the national anthem ever,” posted Astros sportswriter Michael Schwab.

“Remember Whitney Houston’s performance of the national anthem at the Super Bowl? This is the exact opposite,” said Cincinnati Reds sportswriter C. Trent Rosecrans.

Some users even said that at least one of the baseball players at the derby had to hold back his laughter.

Andress’s latest album, Good Person, was released in 2022 and included the song “Wishful Drinking,” a collaboration with Sam Hunt. The song peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100. Good Person peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Hot Country Albums chart. Her debut album in 2020, Lady Like, made it to number 9 on the chart.

Her website states that she has headlined concerts and toured with Keith Urban, Dan + Shay, Tim McGraw and Stevie Nicks, and that Lady Like “set the record as the most streamed country debut album by a female artist of all time upon its release.”

She has four upcoming appearances:

  • July 17 at Row One State in Nashville, TN
  • July 24th at Globe Hall in Denver, CO
  • August 3 at the Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis, MN
  • October 4th at Country Calling in Ocean City

Her website also stated that she is currently in the studio working on a third album.

Andress does not appear to have commented on her appearance on social media on Monday evening.
