Andy Reid talks about his retirement, the third win in a row and the attention for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid has plenty of reasons to be concerned as his team tries to win its third consecutive Super Bowl, but his retirement and Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift aren’t reasons for concern.

At The athleteOn the new NFL podcast “Scoop City,” Reid talked about how he is preparing his team for this season after some of his star players took their fame to the next level.

“I’m OK with that … as long as they’re ready,” Reid said. “And training camp is kind of a proving ground. If you’re not ready, it’ll be obvious quickly. Just from whether it’s a conditioning test or the long drive drills we do. Those things will tell you who’s in and who’s not and who’s put in their time.”

Reid believes there is no one who can handle the fame of dating a megastar like Swift better than his star tight end.

“I think it’s great for him,” Reid told Dianna Russini and Chase Daniel. “He can handle it. In fact, I think he probably loves it. To a point. I think it’s a great way for him to get away from it all. I’ve said that about Taylor too. I mean, she comes to the game, she can kind of escape the pressure of being the show. And Travis can do that. And when he goes to her concerts, she’s a star. And he can hang out there and be the support or the water carrier.”

Reid, 66, has often been asked how much longer he will continue, but the coach insists he is not thinking about retirement. On the advice of his parents, he believes he will know when the time is right, and the end of his current contract – which runs until the 2029 season – could be a time to start thinking about that end.

“I know I’m on the lower side of the net on this thing and not the upper side of the net,” Reid said. “So it’s coming, but I don’t know what it is. And this is a great place to coach, and I have good players. I’ll be 71 at the end of this contract, and that seems really old to me, you know, I don’t really know. And so, well, we’ll see where this all goes.”

The Chiefs players have boldly spoken of a third win in a row. But their coach doesn’t go that far: “That’s not healthy. It’s a nice goal. It’s hard to achieve one.”
