Four of the top ten resorts in the entire Midwest happen to be in Michigan

According to a new list from Travel and Leisure, Michigan is home to not one, not two, but four of the 10 best vacation spots in the entire Midwest.

The national travel magazine has released its 2024 World’s Best Awards survey, and on the 2024 Top 10 Midwest Resorts list, Michigan has the most properties of any Midwestern state.

In fourth place is the Hotel Iroquois on Mackinac Island, followed by the Grand Hotel in fifth place, the Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth in ninth place and the Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island in 10th place.

To create its list, Travel and Leisure asked readers to voice their travel experiences around the globe and share their opinions on the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines and more.

Hotels were classified as resort hotels, city hotels, guesthouses or safari lodges depending on their location and facilities. They were rated according to the following criteria:

  • Rooms/Facilities
  • Location
  • service
  • Eat
