YouTube Music lets you hum to search when you can’t remember a song

YouTube Music has introduced an innovative addition to its repertoire with the official launch of Hum to Search, a feature that improves user engagement by enabling the search for music sounds. This feature is part of YouTube Music’s ongoing efforts to expand its functionality and provide a more immersive experience for its users.

YouTube Music has added “Hum” to search in the US

The newly introduced sound search feature provides a simple and intuitive way to browse YouTube Music’s vast catalog of over 100 million official songs. Users can now find music by simply singing, humming, or playing a snippet of a tune. This feature was briefly accessible to some users in May, but was later temporarily withdrawn for unknown reasons.

Now it’s back and fully functional.

How to use it: To use this feature, subscribers just need to tap the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the YouTube Music app. This action will reveal a waveform button next to the existing microphone icon used for voice searches. Tapping this button will launch a full-screen interface where users can speak or play the song they want. The search process is impressively fast, displaying results that include cover art, song title, artist details, album information, release year and download status, as well as options to play the song or save it to the library.

This feature is rolling out to both YouTube Music Android and iOS users starting today.

New YouTube update features you shouldn’t miss

In addition to sound search, YouTube Music is also running a test for a unique feature called “AI-generated conversation radio,” which is exclusive to Premium subscribers in the US. This experimental service allows users to create personalized radio stations by simply describing the type of music they want to hear. The “Ask for music the way you want” card in their home feed allows users to access a chat-based interface where they can enter music requests directly or choose from suggested prompts. The responses tailor the music played to the user’s specific tastes and preferences.

This innovative experiment is set to expand and promises to bring increased customization and interactivity to even more YouTube Music users in the near future. Both Sound Search and AI-generated Conversation Radio underscore YouTube Music’s commitment to using advanced technologies to increase user satisfaction and engagement.
