Jim Harbaugh was selected for a place in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.

Harbaugh topped a list of inductees announced Friday night in an award that honors the Los Angeles Chargers coach who capped his career at Michigan with a national championship, four decades after being the Wolverines’ star quarterback.

He will be honored on October 17 at the Sound Board Theater in Detroit along with his former Michigan football players Braylon Edwards, Jake Long and Larry Foote, as well as Shawn Respert, Michigan State’s all-time leading basketball scorer.

Former Tigers Ivan Rodriguez and Cecil Fielder, former Detroit Shock star Deanna Nolan and three-time Vezina Trophy winner Tony Esposito, who played goalie at Michigan State, were also selected for induction.

Ken Holland, general manager of the Edmonton Oilers and four-time Stanley Cup winner with the Red Wings, was chosen as a contributor.

Former Pistons player and Detroit Mercy star Earl Cureton, who died in February, will be honored as a Michigan Treasure during the induction. The late Don Shane, sports director at WXYZ-TV for more than two decades, will be inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame’s media category.
