War between Israel and Hamas inspires teach-in on peace

“Teach-in” on peace in light of the war between Israel and Hamas

MISHAWAKA – A teach-in on peace in light of the war between Israel and Hamas will be held July 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Bavo Parish Center, 502 W. Seventh St.

Gus Zuehlke, director of faith formation at St. Bavo, is coordinating the event, which will include recorded video sessions and possibly some live speakers, including a 2017 video of the Rev. Antonio Spadero speaking at the University of Notre Dame about Pope Francis’ geopolitics and diplomacy.

Participants do not need to stay the entire day. Reservations are requested by 4 p.m. on July 18 to arrange seating and lunch, provided free of charge by Wholesome Package. Contact Zuehlke at [email protected] or 574-255-1437.

“We would like to invite representatives of non-Catholic Christian, Muslim and Jewish religions in particular to this dialogue,” said Zuehlke. He said the discussion does not claim to “represent all the voices of these traditions,” although it does highlight aspects of these traditions that “focus on working on peaceful solutions to pressing global conflicts.”

He continues to host a weekly prayer for peace every Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. on the main stage of Central Park in Mishawaka.
