Brunswick County Election Board launches summer event series on voter photo ID

BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — A photo ID is required to vote this year. The Brunswick County Board of Elections is on the road to make sure you get a photo ID this summer if you need one.

The initiative is designed to help voters across the county by making sure they have the necessary identification to vote. Voters can pick up a free photo ID at the Brunswick County Board of Elections office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. But Brunswick County Elections Director Sara LaVere said not everyone can afford the trip, so events are being held across the county from Leland to Calabash.

“I think Brunswick County is so large geographically that if someone needs a photo ID and has to drive to Bolivia, it can take up to 40 minutes from the most remote parts of the county. That way you can be more in the community where people live.”

The series began on June 12 in Carolina Shores and runs through August 15.
