WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minnesota. — A father from White Bear Lake is accused Killing his 3-month-old baby under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The 39-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder, according to a complaint filed Monday in Ramsey County.

The child was injured in late January and died in March. In June, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office released an autopsy report that listed the baby’s cause of death as “complications of bilateral subdural hemorrhages.”

Child abuse specialists say the infant’s injuries are “highly consistent with head trauma caused by abuse.” Doctors told investigators that his health problems were not natural and were “likely the result of external force or trauma.”

According to the indictment, the father told the doctor at the hospital who was treating his son that he may have “dropped or done something to his child” and that he was “not in his right mind” the night before.

The baby’s mother told police she was worried her son’s father was drinking too much, the complaint says.

The father reportedly admitted to police that he drank more than usual on the morning of his son’s injury. He added that he also smoked marijuana.

The mother told investigators that she confronted the father about her son’s injuries and that the father admitted “that he may have done something to her son but did not remember it because he had been drinking,” the indictment states.

In a later conversation with investigators, the man reportedly expressed concern that he may have dropped or sat on his child and feared he may have harmed his child due to his memory loss.
