Using the MPS SafetyStick® for safer roads: A call to action

By working with MPS you can secure the necessary funding and support.

As urban areas continue to grow, the need for innovative and effective road safety solutions is increasing. Recent developments such as the SafetyStick from Municipal Parking Services (MPS) represent significant advances in this area.

The SafetyStick was featured in the recent Vision Zero webinar on fast and affordable tools for safer streets and offers numerous benefits to improve public safety. In addition, parking infrastructure improvements play an important role in this context as they increase safety, improve compliance and make streets better for everyone.

The Safetystick is a versatile, easy-to-install Solar system Designed to improve visibility and safety at critical road points through improved street parking and lane and parking zones enforcementIt is particularly effective in areas with high pedestrian and cyclist traffic, encouraging safer driving behaviour. Its cost-effectiveness and ease of implementation make it an ideal solution for communities that want to make a quick change to road safety without significant financial investment.

Vision Zero: A partner for safety

Vision Zero leads the movement to Avoiding road deaths and serious injuries through safe, healthy and equitable mobility. Their innovative programs, such as Denver’s SafetyStick initiative, have Road safety. As a nonprofit organization, Vision Zero Network seeks to advance this mission across the United States and ensure safe mobility for all, whether walking, biking, driving, or using public transit. Preventable traffic accidents kill tens of thousands and injure millions of our loved ones each year. Vision Zero believes these tragedies can be prevented.

Securing grants for public safety

One of the most important findings from recent discussions on safety tools is the availability of grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for support the implementation of devices such as the SafetyStick. These grants are designed to help communities overcome financial hurdles and prioritize improving road safety. The Safe Streets and Paths for All (SS4A) grant program, which is currently accepting applications, offers communities a unique opportunity to secure funding. The deadline for this grant application is August 15, 2024.

We encourage community leaders and engaged citizens to advocate for these grants. MPS can help to ensure the necessary financing and support to bring these life-saving tools to your neighborhood.
