For the first time since early May, Angel City Football Club has the chance to win a second game in a row.

Angel City’s 3-2 victory over Racing Louisville FC on Wednesday ended the club’s five-game winless streak.

Now Angel City travels to Northern California to face expansion club Bay FC and get a little revenge for the first meeting.

“I’m looking forward to the clash,” said Angel City coach Becki Tweed. “We can’t deny that we lost to them in the opening game. It was a bit weird, but that’s football. I think we dominated the first game. Since then they’ve grown a lot in terms of their identity and changed a little bit the way they press and win the ball back.”

Bay FC defeated Angel City 1-0 in their season opener on March 17 at BMO Stadium. The expansion team is the only team in the league that has not yet recorded a draw (4-9, 12 points).

“We need to be aware of those transitions and make sure we manage the game effectively and don’t get ourselves into trouble, which we’ve talked about a lot,” Tweed said. “The focus will continue to be us against us. We know them, their tendencies and their strengths. It will come down to our performance.”

Angel City (4-6-3, 15 points) has three final games before the Olympic break. After Saturday’s game against Bay FC, Angel City returns to its regular weekly schedule with home games against Orlando on June 30 and Gotham FC on July 6.

“Obviously we didn’t get the result we wanted in Houston, but we performed much better than we have before,” Angel City defender Sarah Gorden said. “In terms of working together without the ball, working together as a group and playing the full 90 minutes, we took that into the game against Louisville (on Wednesday).”

“It was one of those games where we were determined to get a result no matter what. We had some really good periods against Louisville, then some bad ones, which has been the theme of our season at times, but the really good moments were better than before. We knew we were going to get those three points.”
