CNN’s Chris Wallace raves about Trump’s performance at the RNC

Former President Donald Trump appeared at the Republican National Convention on Monday, just two days after an assassin shot him in the ear. The moment prompted CNN’s Chris Wallace He said it was perhaps the most “electrifying” specimen he had ever seen at a convention.

A bandaged Trump entered the arena in Milwaukee to thunderous applause and Lee Greenwood sang “God Bless the USA” on the opening night of the convention. Less than 48 hours earlier, the former president was shot in the ear by a 20-year-old during a rally in Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crookswho was shot by the Secret Service. One participant in the rally was killed and two others injured.

Just hours earlier, Trump had announced that he had selected the senator. JD Vance (R-OH) as his vice presidential candidate, and Vance accompanied Trump to the VIP box on Monday evening.

Although Trump will not speak at the convention until Thursday, Wallace described Trump’s performance as “extraordinary”:

Winston Churchill once said that there is nothing in life so exciting that you can shoot at it without effect, and you can still see that today. To think that just a few hours ago, a few days ago, this man was hit by an assassin’s bullet that whizzed past him and hit him in the ear just inches from his temple. He survived by a fraction of an inch, even though he was shot at without effect. And you can see the joy of that crowd.

I have to tell you, as someone who has been covering these conventions since 1964, that was probably the most electrifying moment I’ve ever experienced. It was pretty extraordinary.

CNN’s Jake Tapper replied: “These are tens of thousands of people who love Donald Trump and almost lost him, this figure who plays such an important role in their lives.”
