NORMAL – Chris Koos, the longest-serving mayor in the city of Normal’s nearly 160-year history, announced Monday that he is seeking another four-year term in office.
Koos announced his candidacy for mayor in the consolidated elections in April 2025. He has held the highest office in Normal since 2003 and said more can be achieved.

“My core belief is that you don’t just live in great communities, you work to create great communities,” Koos said in the announcement. “In collaboration with my fellow council members, a dedicated city staff and community stakeholders, we have worked to make Normal the unique and wonderful place it is today. Together, we can accomplish even more. I am the right choice for Normal and have the experience and passion necessary to continue to lead Normal.”

Koos has served as mayor since being appointed to the office following the resignation of former Mayor Kent Karraker.
In his last candidacy for mayor, Koos defeated Marc Tiritilli in April 2021, the second time the two have fought for the office.
In addition to his duties as mayor, Koos also serves on the Amtrak Board of Directors, is vice president of the Illinois Municipal League, and is vice chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Transportation Committee.
He also owns and operates Vitesse Cycle Shop and Often Running in Uptown.
