Texas quarterback would like to visit Clemson, sees suitability for the offense

After visiting Clemson this spring, a talented young signal-caller from the Lone Star State would like to return the favor with a trip to Tiger Town in the future.

Weston Nielsen, quarterback of the class of 2027 from Bastrop (Texas) High School, would love the chance to see Clemson in person for the first time.

“I would love to visit Clemson,” Nielsen told The Clemson Insider. “I hope the opportunity and invitation comes soon.”

Nielsen has been on Clemson’s radar early in the recruiting process and received a visit from offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Garrett Riley this spring.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound sophomore believes he would fit well into Riley’s system based on what he’s seen from the offense and fellow Tigers’ current starting quarterback Cade Klubnik.

“I think the offense I play at my school is very similar to Clemson,” Nielsen said. “Cade and I are from the same area in Texas and we love to distribute the ball and throw it around. Seeing how he came in and picked up the offense so quickly gives me a lot of confidence that I could do the same thing.”

Nielsen is coming off an impressive freshman season last year, throwing for 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns in just five games, according to MaxPreps.

“I’m a good, mobile quarterback who can keep the game alive in any situation,” he said, describing himself as a quarterback. “The game isn’t over until the whistle blows.”

Nielsen has already received more than a dozen scholarship offers, including offers from schools such as Arizona State, Baylor, Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Oregon was the first state to offer Nielsen last September. He plans to visit Oregon on July 27 and then focus on his upcoming season at Bastrop.
