Judge finds enough evidence for trial in Tulsa woman’s death

A Tulsa County judge ruled there was enough evidence to prosecute a man accused of beating his girlfriend to death in their Cherry Street apartment.

According to police, Dilan Newberry had already been out of prison for eight months when he killed Chandra Cole in February.

According to investigators, Dilan Newberry stabbed Chandra Cole, left the scene and then called police and asked them to check on her.

Chandra’s son said seeing Newberry in court on Monday was the hardest thing he had ever experienced.

Police said they found and arrested Newberry at his father’s home in Cushing a few hours after the murder.

A forensic investigator testified that the victim, Chandra Cole, suffered “horrific trauma.”

The suspect and the victim’s neighbor also testified.

Prosecutors showed the judge surveillance video that allegedly shows Newberry wearing a blue sheet entering the apartment with the victim shortly after 11 p.m.

The lead homicide investigator testified that the video shows the suspect running out of the apartment alone, wearing only boxer shorts, and driving away quickly less than an hour later.

“Do you know how Dilan was led into the courtroom? I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such uncontrollable shaking as I did the day Detective White told me what had happened to my mother,” said Dillon Cole, Chandra’s son. “She gave so much love and positive energy to everyone. That deserves recognition and continuation.”

Investigators say no one else entered or left the apartment. However, inside the apartment they found the blue sheet he was wearing, which had blood burning on it.

Newberry’s lawyers stated that his client is presumed innocent and that all facts will come to light at trial.
