Important news ahead of Michigan Football Week 1 game against Fresno State

Important news ahead of Michigan Football Week 1 game against Fresno State

Michigan will face Fresno State under the lights in Ann Arbor in week one. The Bulldogs have been a strong team for several years and it hasn’t been easy to beat them. Fresno State has won nine or more games in the last three seasons, has been ranked in the top 25 and has won all three bowls.

One reason for Fresno State’s success is its legendary coach Jeff Tedford. But according to a press release from the Bulldogs, coach Tedford is resigning effective immediately and will no longer coach. Tim Skipper, Fresno State’s linebackers coach and associate head coach, will serve as the team’s interim coach for the 2024 season.

Tedford was at Fresno State from 1992-1997 before taking the OC job at Oregon from 1998-2001. He then served as California’s head coach from 2002-2012. He played for a time in the NFL and CFL before returning to college. Tedford returned to Fresno State from 2017-2019 – health issues forced him to stop after 2019. But he returned in 2022 and coached through 2023.

Tedford’s overall record in college is 126-79. He helped the Bulldogs to two Mountain West titles and was the 2017 Mountain West Coach of the Year.

Michigan has never played Fresno State in a college football game, and while the Bulldogs have plenty of time to prepare for the Wolverines, this is a major blow to the Fresno State football program ahead of one of its most important games in Week 1.
