A 20-year-old man faces murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a Mesquite man last week, police said.
On July 9 at around 11:39 p.m., Mesquite police responded to a call about a shooting in the 3400 block of North Town East Boulevard, near Baker Drive, and found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. Authorities took the man to a hospital, where he died, police said in a Monday news release.

According to records, the deceased man was identified by the Dallas County Coroner’s Office as 18-year-old Kavontae Rashon Slate.
According to the press release, 20-year-old Omarey Marshall was arrested on murder charges on the morning of July 10.
Marshall remained in Dallas County custody on $5 million bail Monday afternoon, jail records show. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, the press release states.
