Severe storms possible overnight in southeast Michigan

(CBS-DETROIT) – Starting at midnight Tuesday, an organized storm system will threaten southeast Michigan. The main concerns are damaging winds, flooding and hail.

With strong winds, heavy rains and storms moving through tonight, most of Southeast Michigan is now at a slight risk for severe storms (2 out of 5 on the risk scale). Thumb communities are still at a slight risk (1 out of 5).

Just outside Metro Detroit, southwest Lower Michigan has an increased risk (3 out of 5).

The main storm threats are damaging winds over 60 mph, localized flooding, and small hail. However, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

A flood warning has been issued for Livingston, Washtenaw, Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties from midnight through Tuesday morning. Flooding from excessive rainfall is possible.

This system could provide individual areas with about half an inch of rainwater, and during the heaviest downpours, amounts could be even higher in some areas.

The time frame for this thunderstorm complex will reach our western zones around midnight. It will reach the heart of the city by 3 a.m., continue to move east and impact St. Clair County and Macomb County by 4 a.m. The strongest storms are expected to finally subside around 6 a.m.

Persistent rain showers will persist from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and isolated showers are expected until Wednesday morning.

Clear skies are expected until Thursday, with maximum temperatures around 24 degrees on Thursday and Friday. Over the weekend, maximum temperatures will reach between 27 and 29 degrees.
