Actress Shannen Doherty dies at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer
Shannen Doherty, star of “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Charmed” and “Mallrats,” has died at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer.
Shannen Doherty reportedly finalized her divorce from ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko the day before her death.
The late actress, who died Saturday after her nearly decade-long battle with cancer, filed a petition for divorce of the former couple’s marriage on Friday, according to People magazine and E! News. The filing noted that the divorce was an “uncontested or uncontested divorce” for both Doherty and Iswarienko.
Doherty and her ex-spouse also “entered into a written agreement regarding their property and rights within the framework of the marriage or civil partnership, including maintenance,” the media reported.
The agreement reportedly removed the “Beverly Hills, 90210” star’s right to spousal support from Iswarienko and required Doherty to stop paying spousal support to the photographer.

USA TODAY has contacted representatives for Doherty and Iswarienko for comment.
The dissolution of Doherty’s marriage to Iswarienko came a year after the actress filed for divorce. The couple were married for 11 years.

Doherty filed for divorce from Iswarienko in April 2023, a representative for the actress confirmed to USA TODAY at the time.
“Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted,” representative Leslie Sloane said in a statement. “Unfortunately, she felt she had no other choice.”
Doherty later posted on Instagram: “The only people who deserve to be in your life are the ones who treat you with love, kindness and absolute respect.”
Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015, and in August 2016 she told USA TODAY that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. After undergoing a single mastectomy that same year, she completed radiation and chemotherapy treatments in February 2017; three years later, she announced that she had suffered a relapse.
During their divorce battle, Doherty reportedly claimed that Iswarienko was delaying the process of collecting spousal support by not providing the “Heathers” star with financial information about Iswarienko’s photography work.
“It is simply not right that Kurt is allowed to drag out our divorce in the hope that I will die before he has to pay me the money, while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” Doherty claimed in court documents, according to People and E!

Iswarienko’s lawyer disputed Doherty’s claim at the time, claiming that the actress’ ex had offered her a settlement agreement in October 2023, which she allegedly rejected.
