Taylor Knibb confirms dual role alongside world champion Chloé Dygert as USA Cycling announces road team for Paris 2024

Meet the American men ready to take on the world in road cycling

It was only three years ago Brandon McNulty was in front of the best cyclists in the world, together with Olympic champion Richard Carapaz from Ecuadorafter a daring breakaway attempt on the final descent to the finish line of the Tokyo 2020 road race. However, he could not keep up the pace and was caught by the chasing group before the finish line, leaving him without a medal after his brave performance in Tokyo.

The 26-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona, has collected many awards in the years since that race, including stage wins at the Giro d’Italia, Paris-Nice And UAE TourWith his nomination for the US road cycling team, he gets the chance to avenge his Olympic defeat in Paris.

McNulty goes into the time trial as a medal contender after winning the UCI Road World Championships 2023and the recent stage victories at the Tour of Romandy And Paris-Nice. His climbing and attacking abilities make him a double threat in street racing.

He told USA Cycling: “I was really looking forward to going to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. This top result – 6th place in the road race – only motivates me even more. The racing was super aggressive, I experience it all the time. At home in Arizona and Girona, I am already training with 100% focus on Paris. My goal? To bring home a medal!”

McNulty will be competing in the road race from Ma****gnus Sheffieldwho will look to continue his phenomenal comeback season after a horrific accident that left him hospitalized and out for the second half of the 2023 season.

The 22-year-old from Pittsford, New York, recently completed his first Grand Tour, the Giro d’Italia 2024and finished 20th in the junior ranking. He particularly emphasized that he had Olympic games as one of his main goals for the 2024 season.

“It feels like a dream come true,” Sheffield told USA Cycling. “Growing up, one of my biggest goals was to compete in the Olympics. I’m incredibly proud to represent the USA in Paris and of all the people who have helped me along the way. I don’t think I’ll truly realize all of this until I get there.”

The Olympics also left a lasting impression on young Matteo Jorgenson, who told USA Cycling: “The Olympics were always a part of my childhood. I remember spending entire summers watching sports I had never heard of and admiring the athletes. It definitely had a big impact on me and was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career as a professional athlete. To be able to compete in Paris, especially after the best year of my career, is a dream come true.”

The 24-year-old from Boise, Idaho, will represent Team USA in the road race and time trial. As an all-around rider, he will be a tough competitor in both disciplines.

Jorgenson was only the third American rider to win Paris-Nice this season before taking a win at Dwarves of Flanders to his resume. He also finished second behind Tokyo 2020 time trial champion Primož Roglič in the recently completed Criterium du DauphinéHe will run through Italy and France and at the Tour-de-Francebefore turning his attention to road racing and time trialing.
